It is very damaging to put the term honour killings in inverted commas. This case was very clearly an honour killing. If this was a murder caused by domestic violence, a news article would read: Women killed due to domestic violence, without the use of inverted commas. Inverted commas only help to dehumanise this issue and separate the reader from the problem.

Honour crimes occur due to cultural socialisation and the breaking of cultural norms and values. It is irrelevant whether the father was Muslim. However, in this article, it is highlighted as one of the most important factors. This article may cause people to associate honour crimes with Islam, alienating Muslim communities and leading to people not fully understanding the true and important motives of honour crimes.

A reference to her Muslim heritage. The true reason this occurred was that Heshu Yones was in a relationship with somebody that her father disapproved of. She was in a relationship with an Iranian-Kurdish man, which aggravated her father.
